2010 FRENCH FILMS (in alphabetical order)

La Chair De Ma Chair

Director, Writer: Mallory Grolleau   Producer: Alice Gueguen   Country: France   RT: 9 min

It was a dark and stormy day and Lolotte, husband Patrick, and her father seem to have been stranded in a cabin in the wilderness. With no food, and not a sign of help in sight, the couple decide they must take matters into their own hands. A gruesome horror plot with a comic twist, this little fable about bad intentions is an object lesson in black humour.

SCREENING: Saturday October 30, 10am to 11am at Johnson GEO Centre

Cocculinellidae

Director, Writer: Géraldine Fréry   Producer: Alice Gueguen   Country: France   RT: 23 min

It means ladybug, in case you were wondering. Well, if anything is flying away it’s your imagination in this quirky French short live action film. A charmingly eccentric couple live in a garage, somewhere near Paris. They sleep in an old car and have more funny instruments than Pee Wee Herman has in his playhouse. A set of mysterious love letters keeps arriving under their door, interrupting their otherwise childlike bliss. The mystery gets solved, but not without a lot of funny stuff along the way.

SCREENING: Saturday October 30, 10am to 11am at Johnson GEO Centre

Le Labyrinthe

Director, Writer, Producer: Sabrina Ratté   Country: Canada   RT: 5 min

A voyage into the mysterious.

SCREENING: Friday October 29th 7pm at The Rooms (Mezzanine)

L’homme Qui Dort

Director, Writer: Inès Sedan  Producer: Ron Dyens, Aurélia Prévieu, Marcel Jean, Galilé Marion-Gauvin, Marc Bertrand   Country: France, Canada   RT: 11 min

A terrific animated psychological take about a woman whose husband never seems to wake up. Mmmm, don’t get us started! Well, one day she meets a tall, dark, handsome stranger, effectively causing a crisis in the windmills of her mind. We adore this literally moving illustration of love lost and found.

SCREENING: Saturday October 30, 10am to 11am at Johnson GEO Centre

L’Hybridee

Director, Writer: Julie Corbeil   Producer: Julie Corbeil, Manuelle Alix-Suprenant Country: Canada   RT: 4 min

What a charming and imaginative essay about identity this is. Manuelle Alix-Surprenant talks to us sweetly, directly about the challenges of growing up adopted and Korean in a francophone Quebec-based family, albeit a loving one. Locating your biological origins doesn’t necessarily settle the identity question, though. As Manuelle admits, once a hybrid always a hybrid. However she thinks of herself, you’ll like what you see.

SCREENING: Saturday October 30, 10am to 11am at Johnson GEO Centre
