FFTNL APPLAUDS THE STEPHENVILLE MUNICIPALITY'S DECISION TOWARDS ITS FRANCOPHONE AND ACADIAN COMMUNITY!
St. John's, November 8, 2023
The Fédération des francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FFTNL) wholeheartedly applauds the Stephenville Town Council's decision to restore Francophone and Acadian colors to this historic landmark!
On Saturday, November 4, Stephenville mayor Tom Rose announced his council's decision to encourage the Francophone and Acadian revival of his municipality, declaring its intention to take these steps:
"This is great news for our Francophone and Acadian community in and around Stephenville," says Tony Cornect, President of the FFTNL, before adding, "After decades of setback, it's easy to see that our local community is slowly regaining its vitality, in what was historically an Acadian village, where most residents have French or Acadian roots. It is therefore a very important positive gesture on the part of the municipality, and one we would like to salute".
This statement was made as part of the festivities surrounding the 50th anniversary of the Francophone and Acadian community movement of Newfoundland and Labrador, held in Stephenville on November 3 and 4, 2023, a historically Acadian town and the location of the FFTNL's first head office.
