As part of the 8th edition of Francophone Immigration Week across Canada, the Francophone Immigration and Justice Networks of the Fédération des francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador, in partnership with the NL Human Rights Commission, is organizing a free webinar on the theme "Introduction to Human Rights" on Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (Newfoundland time).
The purpose of this webinar is to explain what the grounds of discrimination are and how the human rights commissions (provincial and federal) address these grounds in Newfoundland and Labrador. All too often there is a lack of understanding about the victimization of discrimination, especially in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic, when people are asked where they come from. It doesn't seem to be a big deal when it happens in services, or in the sale of goods, but it's more serious when it happens in accommodation or employment.
This webinar (which will be held in French only) is available by subscription only and will address the issues of rights but also duties and obligations with respect to discrimination.
